Electricity demand set to cross 7,400 MW this summer

The city's peak electricity demand is projected to cross 7,400 MW this summer. With summers approaching, power distribution companies in Delhi have already started making arrangements to meet the national Capital's ever increasing power demand, which had breached the 7,000 MW mark for the first time in July last year.

Delhi's peak power demand is not only more than the power demand of Mumbai and Chennai put together, but also thrice than that of Kolkata.

Tata Power-DDL said it expects peak demand to touch 2150 MW this summer in North and North-West Delhi.

BSES said it has firmed up arrangements to source adequate electricity to meet the power demands of over 42 lakhs consumers subscribed to it.

In case of unforeseen contigencies because of low generation and out ages in power plants, the discoms will purchase short-term power from the exchange.
